Calhoun County is located in south-central Michigan, with its county seat in Marshall and its primary court facilities in Battle Creek. The county’s court system operates three distinct courts — the 37th Circuit Court, the 10th District Court, and the Probate Court — all housed within a single facility known as the Calhoun County Justice Center. Together, these courts generate and maintain records spanning felony prosecutions, civil lawsuits, family law proceedings, traffic violations, small claims disputes, and estate administration. The Calhoun County Clerk serves as the custodian of Circuit Court records, while the District Court and Probate Court each maintain their own case files through dedicated clerk staff.
Locating court records in Michigan involves knowing which court handled a particular case and then contacting the appropriate office or using available electronic tools. The Michigan judiciary maintains the MiCOURT Case Search portal, which provides free online access to case information from circuit, district, and probate courts statewide. Residents can also visit MichiganCourts.us for information about how Michigan’s court system is organized. In addition to online searching, records can be accessed through the clerk offices at the Justice Center, by mail, or through formal Freedom of Information Act requests directed to county departments such as the Sheriff’s Office.
