Barry County, Michigan maintains a robust court records system spanning three separate trial courts — the Circuit Court, the District Court, and the Probate Court — all located in Hastings. Under MCR 1.109(A), court records encompass any documented information created or filed with these courts in compliance with the Michigan Court Rules, including pleadings, orders, judgments, discovery materials, audio and video recordings, and electronic data. These records serve as the official documentation of legal proceedings and are essential tools for confirming case outcomes, verifying legal status, and supporting further litigation.
Locating court case information in Michigan can be done through official clerk’s offices, public access terminals at the courthouse, and state-maintained online search tools. MichiganCourts.us provides access to publicly available case information for residents researching Barry County and other Michigan trial courts.
How to Look Up a Court Case in Barry County?
Barry County provides direct online access to case records through the statewide MiCOURT Case Search platform. The county also maintains court-specific lookup links for each of its three courts:
- Circuit Court Case Lookup — for civil, felony criminal, domestic relations, and family matters
- District Court Case Lookup — for misdemeanors, civil suits up to $25,000, traffic matters, and small claims
- Probate Court Case Lookup — for estates, trusts, guardianships, and conservatorships
Searches on all three platforms can be conducted by party name or case number. When searching for divorce and domestic cases through the Circuit Court portal, selecting “Civil (includes Domestic and Family Matters)” from the Case Category dropdown narrows results effectively. Online records display case ID, parties, filing dates, events, charges, and sentencing details where applicable.

Barry County Probate Court Records
The Barry County Probate Court is located in Suite 302 of the Barry County Courts & Law Building, 206 W. Court St., Hastings, MI 49058. It can be reached at (269) 945-1390 and operates Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., with a lunch closure from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. A valid photo ID is required for all petitioners appearing before the court.
The Probate Court exercises jurisdiction over:
- Decedent estates and trusts, including both testate (with a will) and intestate (without a will) administrations
- Guardianships and conservatorships
- Mental commitment proceedings for individuals with mental illness or developmental disabilities
- Interpretation and enforcement of wills in cases of dispute or ambiguity
A major function of the Probate Court is the formal administration of deceased estates. This process creates an official public record of property’s legal status following a death. Certified copies of letters of guardianship are available for a fee of $12.00 per copy, and all fees are nonrefundable.
Probate case records can be searched online through the Probate Court Case Lookup portal, where selecting “Probate” under the Case Category filter narrows results to probate filings only. Searches are conducted by name or case number. Records not available through the online portal can be obtained in person at the courthouse during regular business hours.
Note that certain probate records are not publicly accessible. Wills filed for safekeeping during the testator’s lifetime and guardianship records for legally incapacitated persons are confidential under Michigan court rules and are restricted to parties and their legal representatives.
